Our Candidate Matching Process

Connecting our Candidates to Suitable Internship Opportunities

The placement process starts with the finalists and recent graduates of selected VTIs, UTCs and Universities who attended a 3-day training on all four "ReadytoWork" modules. ReadytoWork graduates are highly employable through comprehensive training in the essential modules work skills, people skills, money skills and entrepreneurship. Upon successful completion of the course, the "ReadytoWork" graduates register onto a matching platform where they attempt a trade specific skills test to verify their competency level. This ensures that our matched interns meet the meets the needs of employers.


The matching platform will regularly communicate opportunities available within companies for eligible and interested candidates to apply. To proceed to the next level, these candidates are required to attempt trade/course-specific skills test to ensure that matched interns meet the requirements of their future work environment. Candidates who pass the skills test will be shortlisted and invited by the respective company for a face to face interview. Mutual agreements are then reached between the employer and successful candidates in terms of when to begin work, etc. Our internship quality standards support companies in finding an agreement and planning a productive internship.


At the end of the internship period, the company may decide to offer the graduate a formal job or recommend him or her somewhere else for employment. By giving a recommendation, the employer increases the chances of the graduate getting an employment in the labour market.

ReadytoConnect Platform Testing

Candidates attempt a trade specific skills test ensuring their competency level meets the needs of employers.

Internship Matching

Candidates who pass the skills test will be shortlisted and invited by the employer for a face-to-face interview.

Job Placement

At the end of the internship period, the employer may decide to offer the candidate a formal job or a recommendation for employment.

Our Internship Quality Standards

In order to ensure decent and productive internships, which are beneficial for both employers and Interns, we developed 10 quality criteria:

  1. Follow the Internship Policy Manual provided by Uganda Manufacturers Association
  2. Assign staff which is designated as Internship Coordinator and Site Supervisor to ensure a productive and instructive work experience
  3. Robust and efficient recruitment procedures in place for interns to ensure interns match your companies needs
  4. Have formal or contractual arrangements in place
  5. Ensure induction and orientation of interns, to clarify the goals and objectives of the internship
  6. Enable participation in training programs and regular review of learning
  7. The duration should be not less than 3 months and not exceed 6 months
  8. Provide a fair compensation or facilitation to interns
  9. After completion of internship: provision of letter of reference and/or written certification
  10. Extension of internship period or retention of the intern in case of good performance
